Report on The Day of Prayer for the World's Economies - October 29, 2008

Cindy Jacobs

In January of 2008 the United States Reformation Network began to mobilize intercession for the stock market and Federal Reserve Bank. This came after a prophetic word was given to Cindy Jacobs that she was to prepare intercession for Wall Street and the United States economy on October 29, 2008. This date was chosen because it is the anniversary of “Black Tuesday”, the day of the 1929 stock market crash. It was from there that a downward spiral ensued, which led to the Great Depression.

Most of us cannot remember the depression or the severe levels of unemployment that followed. However, we have all most likely seen pictures of the soup lines from that era. We never want that to happen again.

Preparation was made and teams were set to pray at Wall Street and at all twelve of the Federal Reserve Banks in the United States on October 29, 2008. Three months prior, Cindy received a second word from the Lord, which was more sobering than the last …“there will be no more business as usual”. From that time she expanded the intercession worldwide. When September 29,2008 hit and the economies of the world started unraveling, teams of intercessors had already begun praying for the Japanese, Hong Kong, German, and London stock exchanges as well as the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street.

During this time, Cindy met with Graham Power of the Global Day of Prayer while in Argentina and he agreed to send out a prayer guide to the network that he works with representing approximately 200 nations. Thousands upon thousands of emails started to flood into the Generals International headquarters stating, “We are in!” Prayer teams from around the world were mobilizing to pray at the stock exchanges, banks and financial institutions within their nation.

One never quite knows the full effect of such a global expression of intercession; in a way, it is a holy experiment and one never attempted before on such a large scale for economies.

The U.S. teams met in New York City on October 28, 2008 to strategize. The best of the best prayer generals from our nation assembled. Many were road warriors with hundreds of hours of prayer journeys under their belts in countries across the globe. For such a time as this resonated in our hearts during our meeting.

Meanwhile, since the Asian markets were receiving intercessory prayer before us due to the time zone differences, the U.S. markets started doing what has since been described as a “shock and awe” one day recovery.

The next morning we went to Wall Street. Rory and Wendy Alec of GOD.TV had seeded a three-person camera crew to follow our intercession. Twenty team members went right onto the trading floor to pray with the people who work under that highly pressurized environment. They were all wonderful and very open to prayer.

After that time we met with an excited team of intercessors at the statue of the bull and prayed. This statue is a symbol of the stock exchange and the horns have been rubbed by countless hands for luck—a luck that had run out for many. Today only God’s supernatural intervention could save the economy.

On that site John Benefiel of Oklahoma read an official decree “divorcing mammon.” We repented for greed, corruption, lack of love for the poor, incorrect use of credit, and other things there as well. It felt like the heavens cracked open as the crowd of people wept and prayed and cried out to the God of the universe for mercy.

From there we went to the Federal Reserve Building and took a tour of the vault with billions of dollars of gold. During our time there, we prayed that the Feds would cut the prime rate by at least a point and they did! It happened at 2:30 p.m., just as we finished praying.

Our next stop was the site of the Fulton Street Revival of 1857. A young businessman by the name of Jeremiah Lanphier sparked a move of God there by starting noontime prayer meetings. This resulted in thousands being swept into the Kingdom. There we prayed and prophesied about another great marketplace revival that will sweep the businesses and hearts of businessmen across the earth.

The final stop for that day was the Museum of American Finance. It is housed in the first bank established in the United States in 1794 by Alexander Hamilton. Among other things on display, there was string of ticker tape from the 1929 stock market crash. God opened our eyes to a number of key prayer points on that site as well.

That evening we met in the John Street Methodist Church. This historic church was one of the sites of the businessman’s prayer revival as well. It also was where Francis Asbury preached his first message at seventeen years old and Fanny Crosby attended while she wrote a number of her famous hymns of the church. Oh God, release that Methodist fire on our nation once again!

October 30th turned out to be bitterly cold like the previous day. I said, “there has to be some added suffering quotient factored into these prayer journeys!” Anyway, we got up early and went to Ellis Island because we felt we had to ask forgiveness at that place for how we have treated the immigrants in our midst. We repented of racism there as well.

From there we prayed at the United Nations and had a marvelous worship service in one of their meeting halls. God led us to pray a number of different key points there as well as we encouraged the Christians who hold regular prayer meetings for the nations at the United Nations.

The reports are still flooding in from people who prayed at Mount Carmel in Israel, the Temple Mount, Ephesus, Istanbul, Singapore, Hong Kong, China, Germany, Australia, South Africa, and many other ancient sites as well.

Over the next few days, hundreds of believers gathered together in Brooklyn, New York for the Convergence ’08 conference at Gateway City Church. At Convergence ’08, Jerry Tuma of Cornerstone Financial Services gave such eye opening information about the state and future of our economy. For instance, he shared about how through the abortion of about 50 million babies, we have potentially bankrupted the baby boomers’ social security fund. One pays a price for greed.

As of this writing several of the key points we prayed have started to come to pass:

  • That the bottom would hold. By this we mean that it will not go lower than it did at its lowest point on October 10, 2008
  • Credit would be released
  • Volume trading would take place

After the U.S. elections, the stocks plunged again. We must intercede and stand for them without fail. God has given us an “eye in the storm” but it certainly isn’t over and without fervent intercession, the worst is yet to come.

So, what do we do?

Repent for any greed, love of money, corruption, misuse of credit or lack of tithing that you have participated in or any iniquities from your family in that vein.

  • Get out of debt. Ask God for a strategy to do so as quickly as possible.
  • Believe God to get you out of any hole that you have dug for yourself and trust Him for supernatural interventions.
  • Do not panic or get in fear. Fear and faith don’t mix. You cannot hear God clearly when you get into either panic or fear.

The battle is by no means won but we need to seek God for a new wineskin of intercession to prevent coming economic shakings. We are seeking Him for new prayers for a new day. It is not only the time for “no business as usual”; but in this hour we must know that there also needs to be no intercession as usual.
