The Mississippi Case That Can Bring Life To America
"For you formed my inward parts; You covered me in my mother's womb.
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
marvelous are Your works and that my soul knows well.
My frame was not hidden from You when I was made in secret
and skillfully wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed, and in Your book they all were written,
the days fashioned for me, when as yet there were none of them."
(Psalm 139:13-16; NKJV)
After three months in the womb, a baby measures just four inches and weighs just one ounce, but it is a fully formed human being. We are fearfully and wonderfully made by a loving Creator. The Supreme Court's decision to legalize abortion on January 22nd, 1973, has led to more than 62 million abortions of these precious lives as of 2017 through the Roe v. Wade ruling. "Rescue those who are being taken away to death; hold back those who are stumbling to the slaughter. If you say, 'Behold, we did not know this,' does not he who weighs the heart perceive it?' Does not he who keeps watch over your soul know it, and will he not repay man according to his work?" (Proverbs 24:11-12; ESV)
Some states are passing legislation they hope will overturn this terrible decision. Mississippi is one of those states. "The 2018 Mississippi law prohibits abortions after 15 weeks except when there are risks to the life or physical health of the mother, or fatal fetal anomalies. Based on state health records, about 200 unborn babies between 15 and 20 weeks are aborted every year in Mississippi and the law would save their lives."1
"The State of Mississippi has filed a brief with the Supreme Court defending the state's ban on abortion after 15 weeks of pregnancy and asking the court to overturn Roe v. Wade."2 The Mississippi "law protects the life of a baby who can already move around and kick in her mom's womb; a child who has a heartbeat, can taste what her mom eats, and can experience pain. And the law also protects women, since late-term abortions grow increasingly dangerous to the mother's health. Women and their children both deserve real health care; that's why we're glad the Supreme Court has decided to take up this matter."3 It's time we "uphold the integrity of the medical profession against the barbaric practice of dismembering human beings in the womb and protecting preborn infants from the horrific pain of such abortions."4 "Did not he who made me in the womb make them? Did not the same one form us both within our mothers?" (Job 31:15; NIV)
"Many states have pro-life laws that protect unborn children after 20-24 weeks of pregnancy, which is the most they are able to do considering the Supreme Court refuses to allow states to ban abortions prior to viability. Through this new case, Mississippi is challenging that precedent." Other states are as well. But most of these laws have been blocked by lawsuits filed by pro-abortion groups opposing Life."5 Pray that the legislation in these states will be able to be instituted:
Alabama, Georgia, Idaho, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.
"Mississippi's Attorney General Lynn Fitch called on the high court to overturn Roe v. Wade so the state can uphold its law, arguing, "The conclusion that abortion is a constitutional right has no basis in text, structure, history, or tradition" and further characterized the 1973 ruling as "dangerously corrosive to our constitutional system."6 Pray if Roe v. Wade cannot be fully overturned that the Supreme Court would at least turn Life options back to the states.
Join us in prayer:
Pray that our whole nation would choose Life:
"This day I call the heavens and the earth as witnesses against you that I have set before you life and death, blessings and curses. Now choose Life,
so that you and your children may live."
(Deuteronomy 30:19; NIV)
Pray for continued boldness for state lawmakers and governors to reverse abortion in their states:
"The wicked flee though no one pursues,
but the righteous are as bold as a lion."
(Proverbs 28:1; NIV)
Pray for preborn children being perfectly formed in their mother's womb that they would be able to live,
see all that God has created for them, and fulfill their destinies:
" For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
(Jeremiah 29:11; NIV)
