A Nation Divided
“And Jesus knew their thoughts, and said unto them, every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation; and every city or house divided against itself shall not stand." (Matthew 12:25; KJV)
Our nation is in a time of crisis. We are divided against ourselves on many issues: immigration, gun control, trade, the death penalty, abortion, and gender confusion to name a few. We must pray for our nation! Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every family too. For what family is so strong, what community so firm, as not to be overturned by enmity and dissension? Divisions commonly end in desolation; if we clash, we break; if we divide one from another, we become an easy prey to a common enemy; much more if we bite and devour one another.1
"For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms."
(Ephesians 6:12; NIV)
We must pray concerning these issues and tear down the “dividing wall of hostility” in order to achieve reconciliation. When we pray, we are partnering with the Holy Spirit to move on behalf of our nation. Satan’s strategy is to kill, steal, and destroy. When we come together in unity, we can tear down his strategy. To do this, we need to:
Bind the spirit of division:
“I appeal to you brothers and sisters, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you, but that you be perfectly united in mind and thought.”(1 Corinthians 1:10; NIV)
Pray for unity:
"A brother offended is harder to win than a strong city, and contentions are like the bars of a castle. (Proverbs 18:19; NKJV)
Pray for forgiveness and love:
“Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you. And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity." (Colossians 3:13-14; NIV)
Pray for peace:
“For he himself is our peace, who has made the two groups one and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility.” (Ephesians 2:14; NIV)
As we pray standing on the Word of God, He is faithful to hear our prayers "and if we know that he hears us—whatever we ask—we know that we have what we asked of him."
